Languages of the world
According to Ethnologue, there are currently 7,102 living languages for a world population of more than 7,000,000,000 people.
Most languages belong to language families. A language family is a group of related languages that developed from a common historic ancestor. For example, Romance languages such as Spanish, Catalan, Italian, French, Portuguese and others are related because they all originated from Latin. They are a branch of the Indo-European family together with other branches such as the Germanic and Slavic ones.
